At least night's meeting, we spent some time talking about what to do about the Bullies and Underdogs. Both owners have apparently bailed out on their teams with no notice. As of now, no one has recruited a replacement. I had one possible lead, which dried up early this morning. Obviously, we can't continue indefinitely in this way. So here's my thoughts on what we can do. Some of this you heard last night, other parts of it are new. - For now, we will plan to disband the Underdogs only. This will even out the divisions at 7 teams each.
- Disbanding would take place during a single round following the regular league meeting on November 8.
- Dispersal draft order would follow the same order as regular release rounds.
- On its turn a team could take a player from the Underdogs' roster or pass.
- Salary of the player taken, and contract status, would remain as is. If you wanted to take Martin Straka, you take on his $12 B contract.
- Players dropped during the dispersal draft will go on the next waiver wire. Normal waiver rules apply.
Of course, if we find a new owner who wants to take over the team before the drafting date, this would all become moot. Your input is welcome, but it must be timely. I'd like us to voice our opinions before November 1, so we can finalize the process by then. Please respond by adding your comments to this thread. Thanks! bp

I think this sounds like a good plan.

The Underdogs players should be put in a mini draft, the same way we draft ALL our players to start a season. You have to post a bid and the player you'll drop, in order to clear a position & clear cash if needed. Blind bids is the way to go, not "I'm currently bad, so I get the best players available". I'd vote this way if I wasn't in first, by the way. If I was in last, I'd realize this inequality as well. There are at least 7 keepers, so the other 7 teams get no real shot? It penalizes the GM's who are off to a good start, so I ask again, is it fair? I say it is not. Thanks, Dave.

I've been involved in this fantasy league since back in the day when we were using commodore 64, back in the late 80's I think. To respond to having a draft like we do before the season when we blind bid, I feel that we can't do this. For (1), the existing contracts must be honored, (2) it also gives the advantage to the teams with more cash available for blind bidding. (3) The goal of any league is to be more competetive which we are doing by giving those teams a change to improve. Besides, they have to drop a player to make way for the new player. So the person picking after 7th still has a very good chance to improve his team with either the Underdogs players left or the players drop by the previous seven teams. I just feel Barry's is the best way. We can't start over like the season never started by doing a blind bid draft..........Tony

Tony, In the effort to make the league more "competitive", we'll hand Staal to the Swordsmen (no offense, Bri) for $3!!?? He's won 5 Divisions & 3 Cups (should've been 4-d**n shooting pct!). Do you think HE needs help? In 2nd to last is Barry, who set a new record for points in a season last year and went to the Finals-does he need help!!?? My point is, a LEVEL playing field makes for a better league, not trying to constantly prop up those who are mildly interested, in order to make us more "competitive". As far as a 2nd draft, how many of the Underdogs players would receive bids? We'd have a draft last for 8 or 9 selections, maybe? And, to be competitive, why should anyone receive Staal as a $3 player, except the guy who put him on his AHL roster years ago. And that guy is gone. Thanks, Dave.
